Romania will reactivate the mixed economic commission with Jordan: domains of interest: IT&C, transport, energy and tourism
Romania will reactivate the mixed economic commission with Jordan and will organise economic missions in this country, with relevance in IT&C, food industry, transport, energy and tourism, stated the minister for business environment, commerce and entrepreneurship Alexandru Petrescu, present at the economic forum for the Middle East and North Africa.
‘Romania’s participation to the Forum, through meetings and actions which we discussed with the officials of the countries in the Middle East and North Africa is an important step of the Romanian economic diplomacy to regain the markets where our country, many years ago, had a significant contribution in their industrialisation. This economic zone is open to Romanian proposals, so that with courage and perseverance we can regain our presence there. Jordan is both as political-economic stability and as geography a gate to the economic area of the Middle East and North Africa.I consider that through local partnerships with Jordan companies, beyond the potential of the commercial balance which could be improved and diversified, the next step in bilateral relations is the supply of services and products by the Romanian companies in Iraq and Syria where they could contribute to the process of reconstruction of the areas affected by the conflict. We have all chances to develop the relation with Jordan as there is a high level of integration of the Romanian community in Jordan as well as that of the Jordan community in Romania. A first step in the materialisation of those proposed is the agreement we have discussed with the Jordan minister with a view to reactivating the economic commission and the organisation of some economic missions in Jordan, especially in such domains as IT&C, food industry, trasnsport, energy, tourism’ stated minister Petrescu, quoted in a press release of the ministry.
Between 19-21 May, minister Alexandru Petrescu was in Jordan in order to take part in the World Economic Forum for the Middle East and North Africa, event organised by World Economic Forum under the patronage of H.M.King Abdullah II of Jordan. The reunion followed the exploitation of the perspectives of economic reforms recently implemented in Jordan and the neighbouring countries, in the context of recent evolutions which contributed to the destabilisation of the region, with accent on the encouragement of the initiatives for partnership between the public and private sectors and the improvement of the development in the region, in general.
The World Economic Forum is a non-profit organisation from Switzerland, set up in 1971 whose main objective is the development of an institutional framework where the political leaders and the private sector (economists, journalists, personalities in the academic and scientific domain) of world renown could identify, following an exchange of opinions regarding the most important evolutions on the global agenda, the most efficient ways of promoting the standard of good governance and cooperation in the entrepreneurial sector, for the global public interest.
According to the official statistics, the volume of the commercial exchanges between Romania and Jordan was, in 2016, of 321.38 million dollars, up by 15.6% against the previous year, out of which 316.04 million dollars Romanian export and 5.34 million dollars Romanian import. Romania occupies the fifth place among the countries in the EU which exports to Jordan.
