PM Ciolos: If necessary, the Government will step in to solve the situation at Posta Romana

If necessary, the Government will step in to solve the situation at Posta Romana, Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos on Monday told employees of the Romanian Post who were waiting for him to come out of the USAMV Cluj-Napoca to voice their dissatisfaction in connection with the denial by the company to raise salaries of the postal staff.

Ciolos said that, depending on the outcome of Monday's discussions between the Posta Romana unionists and the company's leadership, the Government might step in to solve the situation.

"There is a board, a management there with a contract with the Romanian state, and they have to undertake certain obligations. This is why I couldn't give an answer as we speak," said Ciolos.

He added that he will hold talks with the communication minister on this matter.

One of the protesters told the premier that this way they tried "to draw attention about this company, that things could not go on any more like this," asking him "to urgently sack the leadership of this company and its board, to defuse this conflict situation which is Posta Romana."

"This is the staff's message, not only in Cluj, but in all our region and countrywide: as long as the leadership of the company is not sacked, the employees are set to remain like this. We do no good to the company, we do no good to the country, because we are already criticised by the foreign media. This conflict must be defused immediately. The people have to start working today, but we want something firm: a raise and this leadership to be sacked," another protester added.

Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos on Monday participated in the opening of the Advanced Horticultural Research Institute of Transylvania (ICHAT) with the Cluj-Napoca University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (USAMV).
