STC and Elsaco companies won tender for modernization of Oradea power plant
Oradea Town Hall attributed a contract to STC and Elsaco companies for the construction of a co-generation group for the power plant in Oradea.
The power group, with a capacity of 42 MW, is financed from funds from the Environment Sectorial Operational Program of 53 million euros, said Ilie Bolojan the mayor of Oradea on Tuesday.
Bolojan added that another 50 million euros will be used to rehabilitate heating pipes in town.
“The plant is three times too big. A new 42 MW group will be installed to replace the old ones. Other groups will be either put down or kept as backup,”the mayor said.
The new group will be commissioned until the end of 2015.
Oradea power plant, built in 1996, has an installed capacity of 250 MW and works on natural gas.
After the completion of the investment, the thermal energy bill of Oradea inhabitants should drop by 10%, but the town hall will not do it because it needs money to rehabilitate the whole heating network. “We will maintain the present price of 235 lei per G calory, Bolojan added.
Present losses are of 26%, compared to a normal 7%.
According to the mayor Oradea is the town with the largest share of people connected to the central heating system of 70%. The new energy group of the Oradea plant will have a gas turbine supplied by GE Distributed Power company, part of the American group GE.
GE Distributed Power and STC will sign a service contract for 15 years to improve the functioning of the plant.
