6 THOUSANDS PENSIONERS LESS IN THIRD QUARTER 2016 AS AGAINST OF THE PREVIOUS QUARTER
In the fourth quarter of 2016:

the average number of pensioners was 5245 thousands persons, decreasing with 6 thousands persons as against of the previous quarter;

the average monthly pension was 958 lei, increasing with 0.7% as against the previous quarter;

the average state monthly social insurance pension was 931 lei, and the ratio between the average nominal net pension of state social insurance for old age with full contribution stage (without tax and without health insurance contribution) and the average net earnings was 50.1% (as compared to 53.3% in the previous quarter);
-
the real pension index as against of the previous year, calculated as the ratio between the nominal pension index and the consumer prices index, was 100.1%.
The average number of pensioners decreased by 6,000 people in the last quarter of 2016 as compared to the previous quarter, to 5.245 million people, and the average monthly pension rose by 0.7 pct, to 958 lei, according to data released on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
The overall ratio of the average number of state social insurance pensioners and that of employees was 9 to 10, with 5 pensioners to 10 employees in Bucharest and 17 pensioners to 10 employees in southern Teleorman county.
According to INS, the average state social insurance pension varied with significant discrepancies according to territorial profile, the gap between the maximum and minimum value exceeding 400 lei (750 lei in Giurgiu county as compared to 1,183 lei in Bucharest).
The social insurance pensioners hold the largest share (99.9 pct) in the total number of pensioners. The state social insurance pensioners represent 89.2 pct of the total social security benefits.
By categories of pensions, the number of social insurance pensioners was represented mainly (75.6pct) by the number of old age pensioners. The anticipated and partial anticipated old age categories of pensioners represented 1.8 pct.

The total number of those who benefited from the minimum guaranteed social pension (currently - social indemnity) in the fourth quarter of 2016 was 570,100, of which 467,300 people in the state social insurance system, accounting for 10 pct of all pensioners in this category, and 102,800 people from the former system of farmers, representing 25.5 pct out of the total pensioners in this category.
