A low salary person needs to save for 26 to 51 years to buy a car through Rabla car scrappage program 

 

A person who has the lowest salary per economy needs to save 10% of his/her salary for 26 to 51 years in order to be able to buy a new car, through the Rabla car scrappage program, said researcher Natalia Ciobanu, when presenting a report on Rabla car scrappage program and Rabla car scrappage Plus programs.

 

The report, commissioned by 2Celsius and made by researchers Natalia Ciobanu and Adela Fofiu, analyzes the Rabla car scrappage program and Rabla car scrappage Plus programs from the perspective of the social impact and the way in which poverty and other social programs concerning mobility and accessare analysed.

 

At the same time, a person with an average salary per economy would need to save for 10 to 20 years in order to buy a car through the Rabla car scrappage program .

The average salary in Cluj Napoca is different from the average salary in Teleorman.

 

Considering the ideaof a national average salary I, a person with average salary, woulod need to save 10% of the salary for 10 to 20 years to buy a new, cheaper car through the Rabla car scrappage program. When we consider these years for people with average salaries, we realize how hard it would be for someone to save money for a new car. That is, if we take into account that the average salary pereconomy in counties such as Teleorman, Iasi and Vaslui is lower than the smallest consumer basket , which means that it is less probable that someone could save 10% of salary without taking it from basic needs,” Ciobanu said.

 

2Celsius representatives mentioned that over 1.5 million citizens in Romania have the lowest wages.

 

At European level, Romania has twice more employees working for the lowest wages per economy compared to the European average,” said 2Celsius representatives.

 

In his turn, Silviu Ionescu, a Ford representative, considers this point of view is “wrong” when 80-90% of car purchases are based on a financing solution, a credit or various credit instruments.

 

Natalia Ciobanu answered that “the discourse is not different”, considering the fact that an employee is either engaged in saving 10% of salary, or pays a monthly percentage to a bank, which is more than 10% of salary. “In essence we are in the same spot,”he said. In his turn, Mihai Stoica, CEO of 2Celsius association said he had suggested a limit for new cars which can be purchased through the Rabla car scrappage program.

We suggested as limit, the European average imposed on manufacturers – 95g CO2/km. Most cars in the street are from non Euro to Euro 4. We could eliminate the Rabla car scrappage program or the program for conventional cars, considering that we are going to sales of just electric cars in 2035. We can forget about subsidies for the purchase of second hand electric cars and the introduction of low emission areas in Romania”, Mihai Stoica said.
