Annual average inflation rate of 4.3 percent, decreasing from previous prognosis

The National Commission of Prognosis (CNP) estimates for this year an annual average inflation rate of 4.3 percent, the consumer price increase at the year-end being estimated at 3.5 percent, according to the winter prognosis 2013-2016.

In 2014, the average inflation rate would drop to 3.3 percent, in 2015, to 2.8 percent, and in 2016, to 2.5 percent.

In the autumn prognosis, CNP estimated for this year an annual inflation rate of 4.9 percent, for 2014, 3.3 percent, 2015- 2.8 percent, and 2016 - 2.5 percent.

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) forecasts for the end of this year's first quarter an annual inflation rate of 5.2 percent, for the second quarter (end of interval), 5.9 percent, and for the third quarter, a 3.5 percent inflation rate. For the last quarter of this year, inflation is estimated at 3.5 percent.

BNR Governor Mugur Isarescu has recently said that the National Bank maintains the inflation projection for this year-end at 3.5 percent and for 2014 they estimate a 3.2 percent inflation rate.

The annual inflation rate in January 2013 stood at 5.97 percent, increasing from the one of 4.95 percent announced at the end of last year, according to the data released by the National Institute for Statistics.
