Annual inflation rate climbes to 4.3% in January
The annual inflation rate climbed to 4.3% in January 2018, from 3.3% in December 2017, amid food prices rising by 3.79% and non-food prices by 6.23% compared to January 2017, according to the data with the National Institute of Statistics made public on Wednesday.
On the other hand, the services' price increased by 0.9% compared to January 2017. "The average consumer price index in the last 12 months (February 2017 - January 2018) compared to the previous 12 months (February 2016 - January 2017), calculated on the CPI, is 1.7%."
According to the cited source, compared to December 2017, prices went up by 0.78% in January 2018, with food products being more expensive by 0.64%, non-food ones by 1.08%, and services up 0.32%.
The annual inflation rate was 3.3% at the end of 2017, in the context of higher food prices of 4.07% and of non-food ones by 4.11%. Services' prices increased by 0.22%.
The National Bank of Romania (BNR) has revised upwards the inflation forecast for the end of this year to 3.5%, from 3.2% previously, BNR Governor Mugur Isarescu said on Friday.
