Bogdan Aurescu at the swearing-in ceremony of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan

The minister of foreign affairs, Bogdan Aurescu represented Romania, on 3rd June 2023 in Ankara at the swearing-in ceremony of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, re-elected after the two rounds of presidential voting, recently taking place in Turkey on 14th and 28th May 2023.

 

The ceremony was attended by heads of state and government, foreign ministers and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Ankara. Participants included the NATO Secretary General, the Presidents of Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Montenegro, the Prime Minister of Moldova, Georgia, the Foreign Ministers of Croatia, Greece, Malta, Egypt, Serbia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament.

 

On behalf of Romania, the Romanian official congratulated the Turkish Head of State on his reappointment and wished him success in his new mandate.

 

The participation of the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs in the inauguration ceremony of the President of the Republic of Turkey reflects Romania's desire to strengthen the bilateral Strategic Partnership, based on consistent political dialogue and close cooperation in a wide range of sectoral areas, circumscribed by the Strategic Partnership, which will celebrate its 12th anniversary in December.

 

For Romania, Turkey is the second largest trading partner outside the EU and the first destination of Romanian exports outside the EU, last year the volume of trade recorded almost $ 9.6 billion, almost 9% more than in 2021, the volume of Romanian exports to Turkey increased by almost 14.5% compared to the same year.

 

At the same time, Romania participates with Turkey in the Trilateral format on security issues Romania-Poland-Turkey at the level of foreign ministers, a format launched at the initiative of our country.
