Bogdan Aurescu, Peter Szijjarto participated at the inauguration of the highway connection A3-M4
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, stated on Friday, in northwestern Bors, on the occasion of opening the border crossing and control point Bors II - Nagykereki, that he has discussed with his Hungarian counterpart, Peter Szijjarto, also present at the event, about the travel restrictions imposed by the Budapest Government, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"During discussions with the Hungarian counterpart, I have also approached aspects relating to the restrictions introduced on the internal borders of the European Union, on the background of the crisis generated by the COVID-19 pandemic and appreciated the decision of the Hungarian party to allow, in the context of measures adopted starting September 1, the transit of Hungary by Romanian citizens that are traveling towards various West European states or are returning to Romania, as well as the decision to continue to allow the circulation of trans-border workers. We hope that the relaxation by the Hungarian side of the travel restrictions will take place as soon as possible. We have also discussed this aspect with Minister Szijjarto, given the unbridled vicinity and density of inter-human contacts between our countries, as good neighbors," stated Minister Aurescu.
The head of diplomacy mentioned that "Romania desires, most honestly, a positive approach of the relation with Hungary, which would translate into cooperation and concrete results" and showed that he hopes in the near future we will be able to talk more about what unites the two countries.
"About the joint European future of our countries and our citizens, about the opportunities for a strengthened cooperation between the two neighboring states, which are partners both bilaterally, as well as within the European Union and NATO, as well as in very important regional cooperation formats, which Romania and Hungary support, such as the Three Seas Initiative or the Bucharest format (B9). I reiterate the honest wish to build, together with Hungary, a relationship oriented to the future, of which future generations of Romanian and Hungarian citizens be proud and towards which they feel responsible. Europe today needs, in our region, more than ever, good vicinity relations, solid partnerships, dynamic and constructive relations and this is what Romania proposes in the relation with Hungary," Aurescu emphasized.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the inauguration of the highway connection A3-M4, which connects the two countries, "is concrete proof that Romania and Hungary can build together and can act constructively together, including in the difficult context created by this health crisis, in the direction of enhancing transport interconnections, which have the potential to facilitate the mobility of persons and freight and to generate economic growth".
