Bundestag vicepresident Katrin Goring-Eckardt visits Timisoara and Sibiu

Bundestag vicepresident Katrin Goring-Eckardt will visit Romania over September 29- October 2 and will be present in Timisoara and Sibiu. “Mrs Katrin Goring-Eckardt, the vicepresident of the Bundestag will be in Timisoara and Sibiu between September 29 and October 2, 2023.

 

In Timisoara she will meet mayor Diminic Frit for a dialogue on political topics. In the evening of September 29 she will be the guest of honour at the performance of Gurre-Lieder music creation. This cooperation project between twinned cities Gera and Timisoara, in which 350 musicians participate, is one of the best parts of the offical program of the European Capital of Culture.

 

The Bundestag vicepresident will also visit the Emergency Transit Center in Timisoara. In Sibiu, Mrs Goring-Eckardt will meet representatives of the German Democratic Forum in Romania to learn about activities and problems of the German minority. When visiting Calnic fortified church, next to the Fortified Church Foundation, she will get familiar with these unique patrimony monuments and representative landmarks in Transylvania.On October 1, she wil preach in Gusternita fortified church,”according to a press release issued by the German Embassy in Bucharest on Thursday.

 

In Sibiu she will also visit a project of Kinderhilfe Siegenburgen e.V Association.

At the conclusion of her visit, the Bundestag vicepresident will have a round of talks in the Apuseni Mountains about opportunities for sustainable development and ecological tourism in Transylvania.

 

It is an honour for me to witness the show of “Gurre-Lieder” in Timisoara. I am happy to continue the dialogue initiated last year with the German minority in Romania,”Katrin Goring-Eckardt declares, quoted by a press release.

At the same time, she referred to the fortified churches in Transylvania, the importance of preserving church patrimony.

 

I also want to know more about the situation of gypsies and refugees in Romania. In a period of crisis it is important to speak about refugee causes and about the aid granted to people in need,” the German official added.
