Competition Council starts inspections at the headquarters of four companies operating on the timber market
The Competition Council on Tuesday and Wednesday has carried out unannounced inspections at the headquarters of four companies operating on the timber market, as well as at two regional forest departments on suspicion of some understandings among these economic operators, Council President Bogdan Chiritoiu announced on Thursday.
The companies under investigation are Kronospan Romania, Kronospan Sebes, Alredia and Lacul Codrilor; the forest departments are those of Alba and Hunedoara counties.
Chiritoiu mentioned that the Competition Council has opened this year an investigation on alleged understandings among the four companies on sharing the market and the supply sources and on purchasing the timber at minimal prices in auctions organized by the two forest departments.
"We analyze carefully the cases of auctions with few bidders, as well as those where the purchase price was very low," said Chiritoiu.
