Czech minister of Foreign Affairs, Jan Lipavsky, started a visit to Bucharest

The quick reaction of NATO and its allies, at the request of Romania, to the recent incidents with drones that affected the territory of Romania was "exemplary" and demonstrates once again NATO's ability to ensure the defense of every centimeter of the allied territory, on Tuesday said the minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminita Odobescu, in a joint press statement with her Czech counterpart, Jan Lipavsky, visiting Bucharest.

"Together we condemned the significant deterioration of the security situation in the Black Sea and the risk of escalation as a result of Russian aggression against Ukraine, including last night's brutal attacks near the border with Romania. At the same time, we welcomed the unprecedented measures to strengthen the posture of deterrence and defense of the Alliance on the Eastern Flank, especially in the Black Sea region," emphasized Luminita Odobescu.

The Czech minister expressed his country's support for grain exports from Ukraine to Romania, "in the situation where African countries are suffering from hunger". At the same time, he conveyed his support for Romania's accession to the European free movement area.

"I am convinced that Romania belongs to the Schengen area, which I supported without reservation during our Presidency of the Council of the European Union and even if until the end it was not possible to convince all the member states for this. We consider that Romania's place is in the Schengen area and we will offer our experience in this regard," said Lipavsky.

The two ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding political consultations, which would create the framework for a "structured dialogue in areas of common interest".
