Daraban (CCIR): Romania's trade deficit may grow to 18.5-19 billion euros at end 2020

Romania's trade deficit will be this year 18.5-19 billion euros, against 17.3 billions last year, said Mihai Daraban, the president of the Chamber of Trade and Industry of Romania (CCIR) at a specialized debate.

We have problems of economic strategy. We consider the energy sector, the processing industry and food industry should be national priorities and from that we will start building. These should be served by infrastructure. We must start from establishing our priorities,” Daraban said.

According to him, Romania should get out of the paradigm of goods export and focus on export of services.“I don't want to thinks about how Romania's balance of trade will be like at the end of 2020, following the aggressive imports during the pandemic. Last year we ended with 17.3 billion euros, an increase of 3.3 billion euros in 10 years. I guess we will finish this year at 18.5 – 19 billion euros. That should make us think about Romania's foreign promotion at all levels,”said the CCIR president.

He added that the state should understand that the private sector should be delegated as much as possible.

DC Media Group press trust organized on Tuesday an online debate “Upgrade Romania – Economy restart plan”, which approached topics like economic report 6 months after the emergency state, the real situation, financing sources for economy and accessing European money.
