Daraban (CCIR): We count on JETRO support to attract major investment projects

We are counting on Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) to attract major investment projects, both in the naval field and other economic sectors in Romania, said Mihai Daraban, the president of the Chamber of Trade and Industry of Romania (CCIR).

The latter met Sawaka Takazaki, the new general director of Japan External Trade Organization Romania (JETRO), with a view to continue actions referring to the consolidation of bilateral relations between the two states.

Japan represents an important market for Romania, the Romanian consumer being accustomed to consacrated Jaoanese products, such as household appliances, industrial equipment or automobiles. Japan's involvement in the naval industry through investments in construction works for the container terminal in Constanta Port, and in designing and building the bridge over the Danube in Braila. Constanta Port can represent an investment opportunity for Japanese businessmen, as there are all facilities for it to become a hub for Japanese goods for EU states. At the same time, there are clear advantages for the transit of goods through Constants Port. Thus the transit time is reduced by 60% for naval transports using the canal route Suez- Constanta Port , in comparison to those meant to reach Rotterdam Port. Moreover, the Danube-Black Sea canal potential can be turned to account, in order to transit goods to river bordering states. As a result, we are counting on JETRO support to attract major investment projects both in the river field and in economic sectors in Romania,”said Mihai Daraban.

In his turn, Sawaka Takazaki mentioned that the JETRO- CCIR partnership focused, in the 5 years of colaboration, on a series of joint actions, such as 2017 and 2020 editions of “Parts Components Procurement Exhibition,” the Japanies economic missions in Romania of 2018 and the economic mission organized by CCIR in Tokyo and Osaka in November 2019.

In my new quality as JETRO general manager I wanted that the first contact with your country would be with CCIR, the most representative business promotion organization. At JETRO level we appreciate the partnership with CCIR, in the over 5 years of collaboration, being satisfied with the professionalism, seriousness and involvement of your organizaton. Let us not foreget the fact that in that period of time, some partnerships materialized through a series of joint events such as editons of 2017 and 2020 of “Parts Components {rocurement Exhibition,” Japanese Economic missions in Romania and the economic mission organized by the 2018 Japanese economic missions in Romania and the economic mission organized by CCIR in Tokyo and Osaka in Novemebr 2019. We assure you that in the future we will intensely act for a continuous development of commercial relations between the two states and we will turn to account the CCIR position as top representative of the business community in your country,”said the general manager of JETRO Romania.

Jaoan External Trade Organization is a governmental Japanese organization set up in 1058, which promotes trade and mutusl investments between Japan and the rest of the world. The initial purpose of JETRO activity was promote Japanese exports abroad, but in the 21st century its activity focused mainly on attracting foreign investments and backing small and medium companies in Japan in order to increase their export potential at world level.
