DIICOT started investigation of PM Dancila on complaint filed by liberal leader Orban
The Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) has started an in rem criminal investigation of Prime Minister Viorica Dancila and national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), major at rule, Liviu Dragnea on a complaint filed by national leader of the opposition National Liberal Party (PNL) Ludovic Orban, judicial sources said.
The sources say the decision was taken on June 7 in relation to the criminal offences of high treason and the disclosure of secrets that threatens national security.
On May 17, Orban announced in Iasi that he had filed a complained with the Prosecutor's Office with the Supreme Court as a "citizen of Romania" regarding certain acts committed by Prime Minister Viorica Dancila and PSD leader Liviu Dragnea.
He added said that these acts are related to "preparing, adopting, and disclosing to the public everything that happened after" the government passed a memorandum on relocating Romania's embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Subsequently, the Attorney General's Office decided to forward the complaint to DIICOT, which is competent institution to investigate such acts.
