Economy minister meets defense unions. Problems: lack of contracts and investments and labor force crisis
Virgil Popescu, the minister of economy, energy and business environment met unions from defense industry on Tuesday to discuss about elaborating future strategies. They spoke about problems faced by most companies in the defense industry: lack of contracts and investments, labor force crisis because of low salaries.
The dialogue took place when premier Orban, economy minister Virgil Popescu and defense minister Nicolae Ciuca met to consolidate cooperation between the two institutions, according to a press release issued on Tuesday by the Economy Ministry.
Participants in the meeting included Constantin Bucuroiu, the president of Dreptatea Union from Moreni Mechanical Works and national secretary on defense industry matters within the Metal Solidarity National Union Federation, Ion Ivan, the leader of Unirea Defense Union Federation and the presidents of unions from Sadu Mechanical Works, Orastie Mechanical Works, IAR Ghimbav, Fagaras Powder Factory and IOR SA.
“They spoke about problems facing most companies in the defense industry: lack of contracts and investments, labour force crisis because of low salaries,” the press release shows.
Virgil Popescu ensured the people present that he intends to strengthen collaboration between the Defense and Economy Ministries, pointing out the fact that he wants to support the national defense industry.
“At the same time Virgil Popescu showed he knew about the difficult situation of most companies generated by the wrong relations between the Economy and Defense Ministries. In that context, the economy minister told union leaders he had talked with the defense minister and established that the elaboration of a multi-annual collaboration plan with the Romanian Army was needed for a strategic planning of orders made to companies in the defense industry,” the ministry informs.
At the end of the meeting, the economy minister said the defense industry was a priority and he wanted all people involved to show professionalism.
