EPP President: Center-right family must be united to win elections
Leader of the European People's Party (EPP), Joseph Daul, declared on Tuesday that he came to Bucharest to support Klaus Iohannis’ candidacy.“I think Iohannis had in Sibiu an exercise which cannot be questioned. When I see he is under attack, as it happened in past weeks, I can say that forces of evil which attack him do not do that in vain. Because he succeeded at municipality level and when we say a mayor is not able to manage a country or international policy I was thinking of image. Think what a French head of state does , think of my friend, Jacques Chirac,”Daul said at a press conference at ACL headquarters.
Daul was asked how he considered the fact that despite EPP recommendations several affiliated parties in Romania had not expressed their support for Klaus Iohannis for the second round of elections.
The EPP leader said he had meetings with all right wing parties on Tuesday morning and mentioned that “politics is a complicated thing.“
Joseph Daul (EPP) met with President Basescu at the Cotroceni Palace
Joseph Daul said he had discussed early on Tuesday with President Traian Basescu about political matters, pointing out the head of state will be pleased if the centre-right movement wins the presidential elections.
"I have always worked well with Mr. President Basescu and as regards the friends I work fair with, I don't think whether it's a politically correct situation or not. The only thing I would tell you about today's discussion is that Mr. Basescu will be very pleased if the centre-right movement wins the elections this Sunday. ... Mr. Basescu is a man of great experience. If he wants to express his opinion, he will do it on his own, he does need me to express his opinion," Daul told a press conference.
The EPP leader revealed that he has discussed with President Basescu about political topics, but he refused to give further details.Daul also thanked Basescu for his works alongside the European political party."I told him that I hope I will be able to thank him once again on behalf of the heads of government next December," Joseph Daul said.
