EU Commissioner for Justice, in Bucharest; PM Dancila not on the schedule

EU Commissioner for Justice, Vera Jourova is in Bucharest on Monday and Tuesday within a visit whose goal is to chart several priorities for the justice system in Romania, amid preparations to take over the EU Council Presidency.

Jourova is to meet President Klaus Iohannis, Justice and Finance ministers, but also the president of the High Court of Cassation and Justice, Cristina Tarcea, the head of the National Authority for the Consumers Protection, Marius Parvu and the head of the National Authority for Personal Data Processing Surveillance (ANSPCP), Ancuta Gianina Opre.

No meeting has been yet announced with Romanian PM, Viorica Dancila.

The European Commissioner will also attend a debate on the children whose parents are left to work abroad.

In an exclusive interview to Digi24, Vera Jourova said that reforms on the judiciary system and the anti-corruption fight are in a concerning stage. On the other hand, Jourova was impressed by the Romanian society and by the Romanians’ strength to support the independence of the justice.

As for the anti-European speech adopted by the Government in Bucharest, the commissioner considers it as a policy to use the EU institutions as scapegoats.
