Eurostat: retail trade in Romania increased by 15pct in November 2015

 The volume of retail trade in Romania increased by 15pct in November 2015, compared to November 2014, marking the highest annual rate increase recorded by a EU member state, data published on Thursday by Eurostat reveals. 

In the Eurozone, retail trade went up by an annual rate of 1.4pct, while the EU recorded a 2.6pct growth. Retail trade in EU 28 was influenced by the fact that both sales of non-food items as well as fuel sales went up by 3.4pct while sales of foods, drinks and cigarettes went up by 1.2pct. 

Ranked by the volume growth of retail trade, in November, compared to the previous month, Romania was the EU leader, with a 2.6pct growth, followed by the United Kingdom (1.8pct) and Poland (1.6pct). In EU 28, retail trade went up by 0.2pct from one month to another due to the fact that sales of non-food items went up by 0.4pct, while sales of foods, beverages and cigarettes dropped by 0.1pct and fuel sales decreased by 0.3pct.
