Exhibition- Event in Bucharest: Salvator Dali's Universe
Between December 13, 2023 and May 12, 2024 ARCUB presents, for the first time in Bucharest, the most ample exhibition with authentic works of the famous artist Salvator Dali.
The exhibition-event “Salvator Dali's Universe” is organized by Bucharest City Hall through ARCUB – Cultural Centre of Bucharest, in partnership with Hadran Events and presents 170 works – sculptures, artwork, engravings, lithographs, gold, ruby, diamond, saphire, emerald and glass miniatures, surrealistic furniture that illustrates Dali's original genius. Exhibits are part of the most important private collection that includes Salvator Dali works, belonging to the famous art collector Beniamino Levi.
Benianimo Levi personally knew the artist in the1960s and ordered a series of bronze statues inspired by the best known surrealistic motifs and themes. The private collection “Dali's Universe”,the result of the close relation with the master of surrealism has a huge value and includes most of the authentic works by the Spanish artist in Europe.
Some of the best known exhibits to be admired for 5 months at ARCUB- Hanul Gabroveni are bronze sculptures adorned with precious stones (diamonds, rubies, saphires, emeralds) such as: Time Dance, elephants with oversize legs, Dalinian Dancer, Space Venus, one of the main pieces of the exhibition that illustrates three of Dali's favourite motifs – clock, ants and eggs, Alice in Wonderland, Dali;s favourite character to represent the bridge to dream land, Woman with rose head, a symbol of pure feminine beauty and youth.
“Salvator Dali's Universe” at ARCUB also includes glass sculptures made in collaboration with Daum, France. Sculptures like Venus with drawers, Chippendale rhyno, capture the essence of liquid, soft matter and its mysterious transformation into hard materials. The gold miniatures exhibited show Dali's inspiration source – jewels at Louis XIVth court, imitating even its coins.
The exhibition reveals Dali as an illustrator, exploring topics that lay accent on dreams and distorted elements. Among the exhibits which will include the entire exhibition area at ARCUB there is also the famous sofa representing Mae West's lip shape.
