Exhibition’ The leu (Lion)- national symbol of the Bulgarians’ launched at MNIR

The exhibition ‘ The leu (lion) – national symbol of the Bulgarians’ was launched on Monday at the National Museum of History of Romania (MNIR) in the presence of the councillor of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria to Bucharest Iavor Stoyanov, the manager for public relations of the Library ‘ Ivan Vazov’ from Plovdiv, Bulgaria, of Alexander Ghyosev, the author of the exhibition and the general manager of MNIR dr.Ernest Oberlander-Tarnoveanu.

The exhibition presents copies of documents, manuscripts and litographs from the collection of the Library ‘ Ivan Vazov’ of Plovdiv, being present as part of the Strategy for European Communication of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The exhibition ‘ the lion – national symbol of the Bulgarians’ is the fourth event which the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria is organising this year in Romania in the Strategy for European Communication of the ministry of foreign affairs’ said Iavor Stoyanov, councillor in the Embassy of Bulgaria to Romania.

The MNIR manager dr.Ernest Oberlander –Tarnoveanu said that in the exhibition are present ‘ the significant stages of the development of the national symbol of the Bulgarians in different cultural domains during the National Bulgarian Renaissance’ these being connected ‘ both to the joint past of the two peoples and the joint past of the peoples in South-east Europe.’

The exhibition presents a different part of the national symbol of the Republic of Bulgaria stated the author Alexander Ghyosev.

‘The theme of the apparition of the Bulgarian national symbol and why the lion was chosen as symbol was very interesting and it has several aspects. On the one hand, it is the historical connection which existed with the Bulgarian medieaval empire and on the other hand it is the connection with Europe and the European tradition as well as the Balkan tradition of armorials and we have the Bulgarian national renaissance and the apparition of the new Bulgarian symbols. The figure of the lion is the joining point between all aspects’ Alexander Ghyosev said.

The exhibition will be open between 9 November – 11 December 2016 from Wednesday to Sunday between 9:00 – 17:00.
