Extensive exercises and training in the Black Sea over Dec. 5-16
The Regina Maria Frigate (F222) is taking part in a range of extensive exercises and training in the Black Sea over Dec. 5-16 alongside military ships belonging to the navy of Turkey, Ukraine and the United States.
According to a release sent by the Romanian Naval Forces' General Staff on Thursday, the training held this week was also attended by a Puma Naval helicopter boarded on the frigate, which carried out training for landing on maritime oil platforms and specific training drills with the military of the Task Force Detachment of the Naval Forces.
The sea drills are part of a NATO package of measures aimed to boost the confidence among the allies and strengthen security in the Black Sea and they are included in the main activity Plan of the Romanian Navy for 2015 aimed at maintaining a high level of the Romanian naval forces' training.
The exercises, in which the United States' Navy participates the USS Ross destroyer, are being carried out as the security situation in the Black Sea calls for increasing the interoperability between the Romanian Naval Forces and the partner naval forces, which is the main element for fulfilling the objectives of the Plan of Increasing the Operating Capability of the Alliance adopted at NATO 2014 Summit in Wales. "The Romanian Naval Forces' military, by the carried out missions, make an active contribution to the implementation of the security policy of Romania and the fulfilment of the commitments made by Romania as part of the national and international security system", the release said.
The Type-22 Regina Maria, with the board number F222 is taking part in exercises of combat against multiple threats, exercises of imposing maritime embargo and surveillance of the sea traffic.
