Finance Minister: We do not need IMF this year; we will get money from financial markets

Florin Citu, the minister of public finances, said on Monday that Romania does not need to make loans from IMF and that the money will come from financial markets.

“In 2020 we had a first: we are the only country in the non euro zone, with a deficit of about 7% that does not need financing from a financial institution like IMF. We will get the money from financial markets. We had the most successful bond issue in the crisis period, with interest rate of 13 billion euros, of which we got 3.3 billions. During the crisis we made long term loans of 15-20 years and we continue to get financing from the domestic market. I am preparing another surprise about loans. Interest rates are getting down, about 3% for lei. Here we have a good collaboration with the central bank, Citu declared at Digi 24.

According to the minister, other financing sources are bond issues, such an initiative for natural persons being launched on July 1,2020.
