Foreign Ministry: A person with dual Romanian-Israeli citizenship dies

Another person with dual Israeli and Romanian citizenship, residing in the State of Israel, died, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) reported on Monday.

Until now, according to the information provided by the Israeli authorities, five people with dual Israeli-Romanian citizenship, residing in the State of Israel, have died, and one person is being notified as a hostage in the Gaza Strip.

The Embassy of Romania in Tel Aviv and the Consulate General of Romania in Haifa have so far not received requests for consular support regarding the disappearance or death of other Romanian citizens in the State of Israel and they maintain constant contact with the authorities in this country, the MAE says.

Approximately 260 Romanian citizens and their family members have requested evacuation from the Gaza Strip so far, Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu said on Monday.

"Recently, the border crossing point between the Gaza Strip and Egypt was opened for the access of trucks carrying humanitarian aid, but it is very important that this humanitarian aid continues. It is equally important for us to allow those who want to leave the Strip Gaza should do it safely. Until now, the situation (...) has not allowed the evacuation of those who want to leave the Gaza Strip. We have approximately 260 people, including Romanian citizens and their family members, who requested evacuation and we requested, in addition to coordinating our efforts, to find immediate solutions that would allow their safe evacuation", said the head of Romanian diplomacy.

Luminita Odobescu participates, on Monday, in the Foreign Affairs Council that takes place in Luxembourg.

The security situation in Israel and in the region represented one of the central topics of the Foreign Ministers' meeting, along with Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

"All foreign ministers have expressed deep concern regarding the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, which affects innocent people, therefore it is very important to continue providing humanitarian aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip", said the Romanian minister, recalling that the Bucharest Executive already decided to send humanitarian aid to the region.

Regarding the evacuation of civilians from Gaza, the minister stated that steps are being taken in this regard, coordination at the level of the European Union is extremely important, but also with the Israeli and Egyptian authorities.

"We are in direct contact, both with the Israeli and Egyptian authorities, to ensure the necessary conditions for the evacuation of the Romanian citizens from the Gaza Strip who asked us for this", the minister pointed out.
