ForMin Odobescu: President Zelenskiy's formula, only viable option for comprehensive, just, lasting peace
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's Peace Formula is the only viable option for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine, Romania's Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu said on Friday.
She had a virtual appearance at the Ministerial Conference on the Human Dimension of Zelenskiy's Peace Formula. The meeting, held in Montreal in a hybrid format, was co-organised by Canada, Ukraine and Norway.
The head of the Romanian diplomacy talked about the sacred nature of human life and dignity.
She said that there are so many tragic stories and each of them happened pointlessly and is unfair. Each of these is a war crime of Russia. The tragic stories of Ukrainian children, of Ukrainian civilians, compel us to demand full accountability for all war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Ukraine. That is the only way to achieve peace and, with our help, Ukraine will achieve exactly that, said Odobescu.
She spoke in favour of international law being observed.
While we are making efforts to develop Ukraine's Peace Formula, others call themselves friends of peace, said Odobescu, wondering how can you call yourself a friend of peace when you forget about the UN Charter, the territorial integrity of states, or about the many tragedies caused by Russian forces in Ukraine.
The head of the Romanian diplomacy called for efforts for a just and not imposed peace.
All of Ukraine's friends are friends of peace, friends of just peace, not of imposed peace, they are friends of the UN Charter, not of power politics, she said.
As we see now, as on another occasion, Ukraine has many friends. With so many good friends and with the well-known resilience of the Ukrainian people, Ukraine will achieve peace and justice, added Odobescu.
As part of the process of implementing the decisions of the Summit on Peace in Ukraine, the objective of the ministerial conference was to identify practical solutions to speed up the efforts of the international community to return Ukrainian minors deported to the Russian Federation or to the territories temporarily occupied by Russian forces in Ukraine. The agenda of the talks also included the situation of prisoners of war, as well as the repeated violations of human rights by the Russian armed forces.
