ForMin Odobescu, US Ambassador Kavalec discuss security situation in the Black Sea, the Middle East
Minister of Foreign Affairs Luminita Odobescu received on Monday the US Ambassador to Romania, Kathleen Ann Kavalec, to discuss priorities for bilateral cooperation in the current security context marked by the continuing Russian aggression in Ukraine and the aftermath of the Hamas attack on October 7, informs the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE).
According to a press release, the Romanian minister appreciated the progress made in strengthening the defence and deterrence posture in the Black Sea area, with the support of the US and NATO, as well as the need to continue the current efforts against the background of continuing security risks, amplified by Russia's drone attacks on Ukrainian ports on the Danube.
She underlined the importance of continuing the substantial and multidimensional support to Ukraine.
As regards the situation in the Middle East, Luminita Odobescu expressed the importance of continued close cooperation with the US and regional partners for the release of all hostages and, respectively, the evacuation of Romanian citizens from the Gaza Strip, MAE said.
The head of the Romanian diplomacy recalled our country's main stance on the current crisis, including the need to identify ways to protect civilians in the enclave and ensure a continuous flow of humanitarian aid.
Both sides welcomed the intensification of efforts to meet the conditions for Romania's inclusion in the Visa Waiver Program.
