France's Embassy to Romania launches 2nd edition of "Sustainable city" contest dedicated to territorial communities

France's Embassy to Romania launched on Wednesday the second edition of the "Sustainable city" contest, which will reward the innovative initiatives of the territorial communities in the ecological and sustainable development area.

"The sustainable development and sustainable city concepts can be found today in all the reflections, in all the strategies, both at European and national levels. The EU structured its strategic action in the environment area within the community action programmes and the environment policy became one of the Union's major objectives. When we take a look at the programme of the Romanian Presidency at the Council of the EU, we see there are several meetings of environmental experts each month," Ambassador of France to Romania Michele Ramis stated, on the occasion of the contest launching.

According to her, the issues related to the environment and sustainable city represent priorities for France, especially after the conference on climate change, held in Paris in 2015.

"In respect to Romania, it committed to settle the necessary framework in view of meeting the 17 sustainable development objectives, thus, showing its concern in the ecology area, and within the Romanian Presidency at the Council of the EU, there are many objectives to advance the European prospects in the sustainable development area," Ramis stated.

She mentioned that in the programme of the Romania-France season, there are events connected to sustainable development. In her view, the territorial units have played an essential role in the fight to achieve a sustainable development. She announced that this year, the competition will end through a conference, to be held on 15 May in Bucharest, as well as through business meetings between French and Romanian enterprises.

The "Sustainable city" contest is organised by the Embassy of France to Romania, in partnership with Business France, the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIFER) and the French Institute.
