Gov't approves national strategy against human trafficking for 2024-2028

On Thursday, the Government approved the National Strategy against human trafficking for the period 2024-2028.

According to a press release of the Executive, through this strategic document, Romania aims to have a national system, by the end of 2028, o fight against human trafficking, which programme will benefit from the necessary resources to be used efficiently.

"Within this system, the central and local institutions, in collaboration with non-governmental organizations, the civil society, as well as with international organizations, will put into practice effective measures to reduce the phenomenon, to identify and assist its victims and to punish traffickers. The purpose of the Strategy is to reduce the impact and dimensions of human trafficking at the national level by prioritizing and streamlining the activities carried out by public institutions, civil society structures and the private environment," the release states.

The strategy is built around the four basic anti-trafficking pillars: Prevention, Punishment, Protection and Partnership, states the same source.

"As an element of novelty, through this strategy, the Government aims to operationalize an integrated governmental mechanism for allocating the necessary funds for the protection and assistance provided to victims of human trafficking. Through this mechanism, the identification of specific institutional sources and responsibilities for the integrated governmental financing of public and private services is purused, of social assistance services, protection and specialized services for victims of human trafficking," adds the same source.
