Government of Moldova ready to grant special status to Transnistria on condition
The Chisinau government wants to offer a “special status” to Transnistria area in case it remains part of Moldova, in favor of that initiative, Unimedia.info informs.
According to the source quoted, that was one of the topics discussed by premier Pavel Filip with the special representative of OSCE Austrian presidency, in the process of settling the Transnistrian question, and with Michael Scanlan, the head of OSCE mission in Moldova.
“It is important to make progress in the Transnistrian matter: to identify, bot technical and political solutions,” Pavel Filip said.
The prime minister of Moldova declared that the main problems include: ensuring the functioning of Moldovan schools in the Transnistrian area, the recognition of higher education study diplomas in Tiraspol, re-establishing telephone connections between the two banks of the Dniester, registering Transnistrian vehicles for their admission in international road traffic.
Last week, Igor Dodon, the president of Moldova, said that Transnistria should remain part of Moldova, but added that the region should have its own government, president and flag.
“Everybody knows my position about the federal state organization. In fact, it does not matter how it will be called: federation or autonomy. It matters what this statute will include. I consider that all prerogatives Transnistria has today should be preserved. Parliament, president, government and flag. We should not have a penny from Transnistria’s budget. We must have a joint state organization, a joint budget system, bank, foreign policy and borders,” the president declared in Chisinau.
