Gymnast Ana Barbosu to receive Olympic bronze in medal ceremony held in Bucharest on Friday

Gymnast Ana Maria Barbosu will receive on Friday the bronze medal won in the women's floor final of the Paris Olympic Games, the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee announced on Tuesday in a release.

The medal will be handed to her by Octavian Morariu, member of the International Olympic Committee for Romania, and by Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee president Mihai Covaliu, in a ceremony that will take place on the esplanade of the Bucharest Olympic House on Friday, August 16, starting at 9:30.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport decided that the Olympic bronze medal in the women's floor event should go to 18-year-old Ana Maria Barbosu, as per the initial finishing order, following the review applications filed by the Romanian Gymnastics Federation and the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee.

As a result of this ruling, Ana Maria Barbosu was reinstated as bronze medalist, while her fellow national Sabrina Maneca Voinea finished 4th, because the appeal submitted by the Romanian Gymnastics Federation and Maneca Voinea was dismissed.

Romanian gymnastics had experienced an Olympic podium drought since 2012 (London), when Sandra Izbasa won vault gold, Catalina Ponor took silver on floor, and the Romanian women's team claimed the bronze.

Romania ended its participation in the Paris Olympic Games with nine medals - three gold, four silver and two bronze, placing 23rd in the nations' overall ranking.
