In Quarter IV 2022, on average, household income was 6634 lei and expenditure was 5842 lei
• The total monthly average income was, in nominal terms, 6634 lei per household and 2648 lei per person in quarter IV 2022.
• In quarter IV 2022, the total monthly average expenditure of the population was 5842 lei per household (2332 lei per person), accounting for 88.1% of the total income.
Household total income
The money income was 6105 lei monthly, on average, per household (2437 lei per person) and the in-kind income was 529 lei monthly, on average, per household (211 lei per person). The salaries and other related income were the most important source of income (66.6% of the total household income).
The following also contributed to the formation of the total household income: the income from social benefits (19.9%), the in-kind income (8.0%),%), the agricultural income (1.7%), the income from independent non-agricultural activities (1.5%), as well as the property and household asset sale income (1.0%).
The main share of the in-kind income is the equivalent value of the consumption of agro-food products from own resources (78.6%).
By residential area, there are differences in level and structure across the household income. In the urban area, the level of total average monthly income per person was 1.5 times higher than in the rural area.
Regarding the structure, in the urban area, the share of gross salaries and other salary rights in the total income was 17.2 percentage points higher as against to rural area. Concerning in-kind income, the gap between the rural and urban areas was 6.8 percentage points, in favor of the rural areas.
Household total expenditures
The money expenditures were 5426 lei monthly, on average, per household (2166 lei per person) and the equivalent value of the consumption of agro-food products from own resources was 416 lei monthly, on average, per household (166 lei per person).
The main uses of the household expenditure are the consumption (62.7%) and the transfers towards public and private administration and towards the social insurance budgets as taxes, contributions and dues (31.1%) as well as to cover certain needs related to household production (animals and poultry feed, payment for work on household production, products for sowing, veterinary services etc.) (2.2%).
The expenditure on investments, intended for purchasing or building dwellings, purchasing land and equipment required by household production, purchasing shares etc., has a small share in the total household expenditures (only 0.1%).
Similar to income, in the case of total expenditures, the residence area determines some particularities regarding the level and structure. In the urban area, the level of total average monthly expenses per person was 1.5 times higher than in the rural area.
Regarding the structure, the share of the equivalent value of the consumption of agro-food products from own resources in the total expenditures in the rural area was significantly higher compared to that in the urban area (by 7.3 percentage points).
According to the standard classification of the consumption expenditure by use (COICOP), food and non-alcoholic beverages still accounted an important share, on average, of 34.8% of household consumption in quarter IV 2022.
