No less than 200,000 labor contracts have been officially suspended this week, Labor Minister Violeta Alexandru said on Friday.
"According to data available in the Electronic Employee Registry - the REVISAL as it is known, as many as 200,000 labor contracts have been suspended this week. This is a serious situation for sure. We are prepared for an estimate somewhere between 300,000 and 400,000 for this period covered by the President's [state of emergency] decree. We are constantly monitoring developments and new decisions will follow depending on how things fare," the Labor Minister told private broadcaster Digi24.
According to Labor Inspection data, there were 5.62 million active employees as of end-February 2020.
