LIBE meeting on 1 October: The situation in Romania
In the extraordinary LIBE meeting on 1 October in Strasbourg, Members will hold an exchange of views with European Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans on the situation in Romania, including the independence of judiciary, the European Parliament’s website reads.
The debates in the LIBE Committee will be based, on the one hand, on the European Commission’s report of November 15, 2017 on the progress made in Romania under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM).
The second point of reference from the LIBE Committee in the debate on Romania will be the preliminary view of the Venice Commission dated July 13, 2018 on the amendments to the laws of justice made by the Parliament – Law 303/2004 on the statute of magistrates, Law 304/2004 on judicial organization and Law 317/2004 on the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM).
