Minimum basket for decent living - study
Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) Romania, launched the study Minimum monthly consumption basket for decent living for people in Romania. The study was made for FES Romania by Syndex and the Research Institute for Life Quality, over August-September 2018.
The concept of lowest decent living refers to a set of consumption needs that cover all biological and social needs of a person, not only those concerning survival.
According to the study, the value of the minimum consumption basket for a family of 2 adults and 2 children is 6,762 lei. For a single person, the basket value is 2,552 lei per month.
The structure of the minimum basket for decent living includes 11 chapters: 1. Food, 2. Clothes and footwear, 3. House, 4. House equipping, 5. House expenses, 6. Household products and personal hygiene, 7. Services, 8. Education and culture, 9. Health, 10. Recreation and holidays, 11. Family saving fund. These chapters include 226 items on the overall.
1,405 lei is needed for food, 651 lei for clothes and footwear, 1,781 lei for the house, 220 lei house equipping, house expenses 477 lei, household products and personal hygiene 488 lei, education and culture 546 lei, health care 107 lei, recreation and holidays 615 lei. Food has a share of 20.77% and the household 26.33%.
