NATO: Romania allocated last year 1.45% of the GDP for defence
The budget for defence of Romania was last year 10.337 billion lei at current prices(8.708 billion lei at the prices of 2010) representing 1.45% of the GDP, which places our country on the tenth position among the member states of NATO, from this point of view, shows a report published on Monday by NATO on its site.
According to the quoted document, which presents the situation of the military budgets of the member states of NATO over the last eight years, in 2014 our country allocated for defence 9.014 billion lei at current prices (7.815 billion lei at 2010 prices), 1.35% of GDP respectively, and for this year the military budget is estimated at 11.230 billion lei at current prices (9.271 billion lei at 2010 prices) 1.48% of GDP respectively.
Last year, only five member countries of the NATO – the US,Greece, the UK, Estonia and Poland – allocated to the defence a budget of at least 2% of GDP, objective established at the NATO Summit which took place in September 2014 in Wales.
Luxembourg allocated for defence last year only 0.44%of GDP which places it on the last position among the member states of NATO from this point of view.
