Only 30.2% of households afforded new clothes in 2016
Only 30.2% of households in Romania afforded to buy new clothes last year, while 18.1% had a week of vacation outside the house, from the monthly income, the National Statistic Institute (INS) shows.
According to the document, 6.4% afforded to replace their old/outdated furniture, 13.3% bought household appliances and 11.7% went to theatre shows or the cinema.
On the other hand, only 16.1% of households in Romania afforded to buy books, newspapers, magazines from the monthly incomes obtained.
INS data show that a third of households in Romania did not pay household maintenance costs in time last year and 14.5% could not electricity bills. 6.4% did not pay TV subscriptions in time and 6.2% their phone bill.
In order to face current expenses, 10.6% of households used additional work, 11.2% financial aid from relatives and friends, 6.5% borrowed from relatives, friends or other persons, 7.3% used savings.
69.9% of households can cope with expenses from their net monthly income.
Income taxes, contributions to social security, other taxes had a share of 20.3% of overall expenses in a household, amounting to 513 lei/month on the average, according to INS.
From that amount, the tax on salary represented 39.7%, compared to 39.5% in 2015, while social security contributions (for pension, unemployment fund and health care) was 58.4% compared to 56.3% in 2015.
In 2015 the share of taxes in overall expenses was 19% and the amount was 446.1 lei/household.
“Taxes, contributions, hold a big share in total household expenses whose incomes come from salaries. In 2016, their share was 29.2% for employee households, compared to 13.6% for jobless households, 9,8% for pensioners, 4.9% for freelancers and 3.7% for farmer households,”the document shows.
The main destination of household expenses - consumption- held 71.7% of total expenses. Consumption expenses represented 1,810 lei/month/household, while expenses for buying foodstuff, non food products and the payment of services amounted to 1,612 lei/month (63.9% of total expenses).
According to INS, the other part of consumption expenses, the value of human consumption from their own resources equalled 198.1 lei/household and represented 7.8% of total expenses.
