Over 2,000 tourists at Christmas at Lake Balea's Ice Hotel

More than 2,000 tourists have climbed to over 2,000 metres in the Fagaras Mountains (highest of the Romanian Carpathians), to the only ice hotel of Romania, the one located at Balea Lac (Lake Balea), Lidia Badila, the Ice Hotel's spokesperson, said.

Tourists waited up to four hours to climb up by cable car from Balea Cascada (Waterfall) to Balea Lac. In order to see the ice hotel, tourists have but to use the cable, since the road traffic on the Transfagarasan highway is closed. And they pay 60 lei per person for a climb up and a climb down by the cable car.

Most of the tourists went to Balea Lac to take photos inside the ice hotel. Entrance is worth 15 lei/person.

Starting with December 22, tourists have commenced to check in at the Ice Hotel of Balea Lac. All of the 14 rooms are sold out to Romanian, English and German tourists, says Lidia Badila, for 440 lei — a double room per night. The Ice Hotel Balea Lac's owners are in preparations to erect as they did in the past years, some ice igloos where to host those tourists who want more privacy. The price for checking in in an igloo per night is 660 lei.
