Patriarchy: Politicization, association with Liviu Dragnea and lack of debates led to referendum failure
The referendum for family did not reach 30% of votes needed for validation because of the politicization of the event, of the association with Liviu Dragnea and because the question addressed to voters was not clear, said Vasile Banescu, the spokesman for BOR - the Romanian Orthodox Patriarchy on Monday.
BOR representative said, in an interview granted to RFI, that the referendum theme had not been debated enough in society and “online disinformation and the politicization of the event” had contributed to failure.
The Central Election Bureau announced that 20.41% people had voted after two election days for the referendum.
As a result, the referendum did not reach the validation threshold of 30% of people enlisted on permanent election lists.
Of people who voted, after the Central Election Bureau centralised 99.8% of polling sections, 91.57% voted Yes adn 6,46% voted No.
