PM Ciuca met General Dynamics delegation
Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca on Thursday welcomed a delegation of General Dynamics European Land System Romania at the Government House saying that the defence industry should strengthen its capabilities and upgrade military equipment as key elements for ensuring regional security.
According to a government press release, the importance of an ongoing project for the production of Piranha 5 armoured wheeled vehicles at the Bucharest Mechanical Plant was underlined.
Attracting research and development projects is a priority, especially in terms of developing the strategic partnership with the US, according to the government.
"We need to strengthen the defence industry, and for that we need partners with solid and proven experience," Ciuca is quoted as saying.
The Bucharest Mechanical Plant in partnership with General Dynamics started the production of Piranha 5 armoured wheeled vehicles after the signing of a collaboration agreement in March 2022. Over 220 Piranha 5 vehicles will be built in Romania, along with the entire operational system needed for their use.
