Romania, Hungary's chiefs of defence meet on regional security

Romania's Chief of Defence Gheorghita Vlad on Thursday was welcomed by his Hungarian counterpart Gabor Borondi in Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary, to discuss regional security, boosting bilateral military ties and joint action guidelines as part of a broader process of strengthening NATO's deterrence and defence posture.

"Co-operation between the Romanian and Hungarian soldiers is highlighted, first of all, by the success of the Romanian-Hungarian Joint Peacekeeping Battalion, which counts over 25 years of continuous activity, as well as by the operation of the regional initiative Multinational Engineer Battalion. Last but not least, the Romanian and Hungarian servicepersons participate, together with other colleagues from other NATO member and partner states, in accomplishing NATO and EU missions and operations in the Western Balkans," Vlad is quoted as saying in a press statement released by the Romanian Defence Ministry (MApN).

Vlad's schedule in Hungary included a visit to the 30th Mechanized Infantry Brigade, as well as touring a static exhibition of defence equipment from the Hungarian armed forces.
