Romania ranks first in top of countries from which Moldova makes imports

Romania climbed first in top of countries from which Moldova makes imports, following an increase by 15% of deliveries of goods in the first half of the year against the similar period of 2013, according to Moldpres.

Romanian exports to Moldova amounted to 360 million dollars in the first semester of 2014. It was the second time after the year 2000 when Romania surpassed the Russian Federation in the top of the most important import partners for Moldova, on the background of a drop by 9% of Russian exports to Moldova in the first 6 months of the year.

Romania exported goods of 360 million dollars while deliveries from the Russian Federation were 7 million dollars lower, 353 million dollars.“The import of automobiles and diesel oil comes mainly from Romania, while the regional crisis has seriously affected trade, and we are talking not only about Russia but also about Ukraine with which we recorded a more serious drop,” Octavian Calmic, deputy minister for economy explained for Moldpres.

According to him, some of the diesel oil exports used to come from the Russian Federation not long

ago. According to data supplied by ANRE, 60.5% of the diesel oil consumption in Moldova in 2013 was covered by imports from Romania and only 17.2% came from Russia.

Mariana Eni, head of the Department for foreign trade and market services of BNR confirmed that diesel oil imports from the east dropped and natural gas purchases dropped to 207 million dollars in the first 6 months of 2014, compared to 226 million dollars in the same period of 2013.

The reduction of exports from Russia is linked to the considerable contraction of exports in the Russian market, says economic expert Viorel Chivriga.“This region has become an area with many risks, that is why transporters no longer make transports,” Chivriga said.

According to BNS exports of goods from Moldova to the Russian Federation dropped by 23.6% in 6 months.Official statistics also show that in 2008 Romania ranked first among export partners of Moldova, and in 2000 it was first for imports.
