Romania's COVID-19 death toll rises by 4 to 545

Four more people infected with the novel coronavirus have died in Romania, bringing the total death toll to 545, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official coronavirus communication taskforce, reported on Thursday evening. It is about three men and a woman aged 53 to 64.

As many as 386 new cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus have been registered in Romania since the last update, taking the total number of infections to 10,096, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Thursday. Of the infected persons, 2,478 were declared cured and discharged from hospital. A number of 236 patients are being treated in intensive care units.

A number of 12,226 persons are in institutional quarantine on Romanian territory, and another 28,131 are in self-isolation and under medical monitoring, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) informs on Thursday.

According to the quoted source, since the entry into force of the Military Ordinance no. 2 and up to now, 2,185 persons that did not respect the self-isolation period were place in institutionalized quarantine. Furthermore, 139 quarantined persons who illegally left their designated residences have been ordered a new 14-day quarantine period.

To date, at national level, 113,336 tests have been processed.

As many as 466 criminal cases have been opened in Romania so far by the authorised departments of the Interior Ministry for hampering the combat of COVID-19, a criminal offense under Article 352 (1) in the Criminal Code, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) announced on Thursday.

In the last 24 hours, Police and gendarme officers found 5,192 people breaking the restriction of movement rules, handing out fines worth 11,385,528 lei.
