Romania’s Finance minister takes over Ecofin presidency
The Romanian minister of Finance has taken over the presidency of Ecofin, the council of EU’s Finance ministers, from its Austrian counterpart as Romania prepares to be at the helm of EU’s Council for six months, http://business-review.eu informs.
The Finance minister Eugen Teodorovici took over from his Austrian counterpart the ECOFIN Council Presidency.
“The Romanian Finance Minister will chair meetings of the Council for Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Union (ECOFIN) during January-June 2019. For six months, Minister Eugen Teodorovici will ensure a balanced and pragmatic representation of the Union’s economic and financial interests European,” the Finance Ministry said on Tuesday, in a press release.
The Romanian Finance Ministry has pursued an administrative reform program in order to cut red tape, improve the IT infrastructure and support Romania’s presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2019.
The ministry has created 14 new positions with contracts that run through to August 31 2019 to support Romania’s presidency of the EU Council. The ministry has also updated the organizational chart for the Ministry and the tax administration agency ANAF.
Starting January 1 2019, Romania will manage the dialogue with other EU institutions and will handle the European agenda at sectorial level for the Council. During the presidency, the country will also organize informal meetings of EU decision makers.
