Romania signed Additional Protocol to the European Charter of Local Self-Government
Ambassador Ion Jinga, Permanent Representative of Romania, signed the Additional Protocol to the European Charter of Local Self-Government on the right to participate in the affairs of a local authority , in the presence of the Council of Europe Deputy Secretary General, Bjørn Berge and the Council of Europe Congress Secretary General Mathieu Mori.
The Congress welcomes this signature, which follows on from Recommendation 494 (2023) on the application of the European Charter of Local Self-Government by Romania, which has been a party to the Charter since 1998.
The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities is an institution of the Council of Europe, responsible for strengthening local and regional democracy in its 46 member states. Composed of two chambers – the Chamber of Local Authorities and the Chamber of Regions – and three committees, it brings together 612 elected officials representing more than 130 000 local and regional authorities.
