Romania to donate COVID-19 vaccines to Ukraine, Serbia

Romania will donate 100,800 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Ukraine and 50,400 doses to Serbia, senior official with the Romanian Health Ministry Monica Althamer announced on Wednesday at the end of a government meeting.

"A government decision on humanitarian aid, COVID-19 vaccine doses, to Ukraine and Serbia has been approved today. We are talking about 100,800 doses to Ukraine and 50,400 doses to Serbia," she told a news briefing at the Government House.

On the other hand, the government has approved an emergency ordinance aimed at creating the necessary legislative framework to allow it to resell some of the anti-COVID-19 vaccine doses, with the Ministry of Health being mandated to conclude the agreements with other states in this respect, Secretary of State Monica Althamer informed on Wednesday.

"An emergency ordinance has been approved that regulates some measures regarding the capitalisation of some of the doses of anti-COVID 19 vaccines. According to the specific provisions in the agreements concluded with the European Union related to the acquisition of anti-COVID-19 vaccine doses, the same as other states, Romania can resell or donate some of the vaccine doses. The emergency ordinance approved today creates the legislative framework that will allow the reselling of some of the doses and mandates the Ministry of Health for the job, to conclude agreements with other states on behalf of the Romanian state more precisely. The money from the resell will return to the state budget, Monica Althmaer told a press conference at the Victoria Palace.
