Romanian, Bulgarian IntMins agree on unitary action in migration crisis management
On a visit to Ruse on Friday, Romania's Interior Minister Petre Toba met Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova to coordinate actions for efficient management of some situations that might be generated by the possible change in the migration flows.According to a press statement by the Romanian Interior Ministry (MAI), the two officials evaluated the current forms of cooperation at their common border, underscoring the excellent collaboration between the national and border police forces of the two countries. "We have evaluated today all the measures jointly taken with our Bulgarian partners, both the patrols made up of Romanian police officers operating on Bulgaria's soil, the intelligence exchange through the Contact Point at Giurgiu, as well as the joint patrols we decided to conduct at the border and we also agreed to continue these good practices and strengthen our cooperation," Toba is quoted as saying in the statement.
During the meeting, Interior Minister Toba underscored the consistent support Romania grants to the FRONTEX missions and its availability to contribute human and logistic resources to the European effort of managing the migration flow from Greece, in the context of implementing the EU — Turkey agreement.
The statement mentions that the two interior ministers agreed to conduct unitary actions in respect to the management of the migration crisis and to continue their coordination in current European files. Moreover, the intelligence exchange in real time will be intensified and joint actions in the fight against cross-border crime will continue.
The meeting with Bulgaria's deputy prime minister and interior minister took place as part of actions meant to consolidate the bilateral dialogue with the countries in the region, and it was preceded by similar meetings of Minister Toba with his counterparts of Hungary, Serbia and Poland, the statement says.
