Rumen Radev, meetings with the speaker of the Deputies’ Chamber and that of the Senate
The speaker of the Deputies’ chamber Liviu Dragnea had on Wednesday a meeting with the president of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev who focused on the progress of bilateral cooperation.
‘I want to express my satisfaction due to the fact that along the years our bilateral cooperation has had progress, namely there is a tendency for growth. From the point of view of commercial exchanges and from the point of view of investments and touristic development, the number of Romanian citizens, Bulgarian respectively who visit the two countries has grown every year’ the president of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev mentioned at the beginning of the meeting.
He thanked for the invitation to visit the Parliament of Romania and mentioned that in the discussion with president Klaus Iohannis approached topics regarding the partnership in the EU and NATO.
In his turn, the speaker of the Senate, Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, stated after the meeting with president Rumen Radev, that Romania and Bulgaria should be more active in the development of joined projects financied by European funds, especially at the border, in the EU Strategy for the region of Danybe, among the domains of interest being infrastructure and energy security.
The discussions aimed at the joined objectives taken by Romania and Bulgaria as partners in the EU and that of strategic partners being evident the mutural interest for the intensification of the political dialogue including the parliamentary plan, with a view to advancing points of view and convergent projects on issues which govern the present European agenda.
During the meeting, the Romanian official mentioned the fact that Romania will not accept a Europe with several speeds, showing that a strong and united Europe where the balance between rights and duties of the member states be always in the attention of the leaders, of its citizens, will bring benefits on a long term to the member states and will serve the common interest for the consolidation of the European construction, the Senate press release says.
As regards the interparliamentary dialogue the wish was expressed to intensify cooperation at the level of the commissions for European affairs, with the view to taking over the presidency of the Council of the European Union by Bulgaria in January 2018 and by Romania one year later
The two officials discussed about the significance and importance of the participation of Romania and Bulgaria for consultations in format B9 ( the format Bucharest – dialogue and regional cooperation as a matter of security of the countries in the eastern part of the NATO), the press release says.
The speaker of the Senate pointed that he followed the initiation of the B9 formt at the level of the parliament with the participation of the speakers in the parliaments of the countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
‘This evolution, in the sphere of parliamentary diplomacy will enlarge the range of the consultations in defence which take place at the level of the government, with benefits for the whole euro-Atlantic space’ the quoted source says.
