Speaker Orban: Statement of Hungarian President comparing Crimea's illegal annexation,Trianon Treaty, insult to Romania

The statement of the President of Hungary, Janos Ader, comparing the annexation of Crimea by Russia with the Trianon Treaty, which ended Hungary's involvement in World War I and the Romanian-Hungarian War and recognized the Romania's Great Union of 1918, represents "an insult" and mustn't remain unanswered, said, on Tuesday, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Ludovic Orban.

"It's a bellicose statement, a statement that has no relation to the historical reality and which was made in a completely unfit setting. There was a whole other topic of discussion there, and to make a connection between the annexation of Crimea by Russia and a decision which, practically, was taken following the popular will expressed in the international context that existed at the end of the war is an insult to Romania," said Orban, at the end of the meeting of the governing coalition.

According to him, "normally, such a statement cannot remain unanswered" by the authorities in Bucharest.

Asked if the coalition meeting also discussed the situation of refugees from Afghanistan, Ludovic Orban said such a discussion did not take place, but will take place following ample documenting. "And when it is necessary, we will discuss this subject as well," said the chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL).
