Stab (FIC): One of the present challenges is turning economic growth into sustainable development
One of the present challenges is turning economic growth into sustainable development, says Eric Stab, the president of the Foreign Investors’ Council (FIC), at the forum “Romania 10 Years in EU. Progress, development prospects, challenges.”
He showed that in many western cities there is the development of what is called “smart city”m but it is difficult to do that at the same time with managing current problems like those concerning transport or waste management.
“If you go to cities that compete with Bucharest, there are massive investments every year in fields like smart traffic management, smart street lighting and energy efficiency management. It is difficult to take care at the same time of citizens’ basic needs and not losing contact with other cities that concentrate on smart solutions,” Stab mentioned.
He gave as example small towns in Poland where there are rehabilitation actions for public buildings through public private partnership and EU funds.
In his turn, Fady Chreih, general manager of the private health network Regina Maria pointed out that Romania ranks last for the quality of infrastructure in the health field (Euro Health Index). He said that Romania spent over 300 euros/capita to finance the health system in 2015, Poland spent 600 euros and Germany over 1,700 euros.
