Statistics: Net average salary gain drops down to 3,101 lei in May

  • In May 2019, the average gross nominal earnings were 5078 lei, by 0.5% lower than the one registered in April 2019.

  • The average net nominal earnings were 3101 lei, decreasing as against the previous month with 14 lei (-0.4%).

 The net average nominal salary gain was 3,101 lei in May, down by 14 lei (-0,4 pct), the highest salaries being registered in the information technology field, while the lower were recorded in the garment manufacturing sector, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Monday.

The gross average nominal salary gas was 5,078 lei, by 0.5 pct lower than in April 2019.

The highest net nominal average salary gain was recorded in information technology services (including IT services) - 6,946 lei, and the smallest in the manufacture of apparel - 1,782 lei.

"In May 2019, in most economic sectors, the net average salary gain was lower than in the previous month as a result of occasional bonuses (including quarterly, annual, 13th, for special performances or Easter holidays) being granted in April 2019, in-kind rights and cash benefits, amounts from net profit and other funds (including valuables). Also, net average earnings in May were lower than in the previous month as a result of lower production or lower receipts (depending on contracts/projects) or staffing with low wage earnings," INS said.

The most significant decreases in net average earnings were recorded in financial intermediation, insurance and pension funds by 17.8 pct, in insurance, reinsurance and pension funding activities (excluding those in the system public social insurance), with 17.1 pct, respectively, in the extraction of metalliferous ores, by 16.2 pct.

The most significant increases in net average earnings were recorded in crude oil and natural gas extraction, with 19.2 pct in coal and mining, computer and electronic and optical products, extraction services, furniture manufacturing, with a percentage between 2.5 pct and 7.5 pct.

According to the INS, the decrease in the net average earnings in May 2019, as compared with April was due to the granting in April of occasional bonuses (including quarterly, annual, 13th salary, for special performances or for Easter holidays), rights in kind and cash, amounts from net profit and other funds (including value tickets). Also, net average earnings in May were lower than in the previous month due to lower production or lower receipts (depending on contracts/projects) or staffing with low wage earnings.

In the budget sector there were recorded slight increases in net average earnings compared to the previous month, such as: education (+ 2.6 pct), public administration (+ 1.4 pct), health and social assistance (+0.5 pct).
